Altrincham Today cozy evening
I possess a wealth of knowledge about wine and am genuinely thrilled to share some of my seasonal favorites with you this month. I hope they enhance any festivities you are involved in this year—or at least encourage you to indulge during a cozy evening in front of the television. At this time of year, we consume a lot of fizz, so more affordable yet special options are appreciated. This sparkling wine from Tasmania in Australia is my go-to—and a favorite among many sommeliers.
Altrincham Today Tasmania boasts
One of the coolest climates in Australia, making it ideal for producing outstanding sparkling wines. Jansz’s is high-quality: vigneron Jennifer Doyle received the Viticulturist of the Year award at the Australian Women in Wine Awards in 2017. This little gem boasts a delightful peaches-and-cream softness.Last Christmas, when I was fortunate enough to spend a few days with family in the Lakes, it was this wine that we opened to enjoy after dinner in the hot tub on Christmas Eve. If you’ve never experienced an outdoor hot tub in freezing weather, I strongly recommend it, by the way.
The grape variety
Gewürztraminer may sound somewhat like one of your dad’s theatrical sneezes, but it is a noble grape variety known for producing rich and luscious white wines.Gewürztraminer is a German grape, but it’s a significant variety in the nearby French region of Alsace, an alpine area famous for producing what I refer to as ‘Grandma’s knicker drawer’ wines. Don’t let that label deter you; I simply mean they are incredibly floral, like this one with its hints of lychee, candied peel, and Turkish delight. Altrincham Today With a touch of residual sugar, this would pair perfectly with a Boxing Day turkey curry.
